So I got an early birthday surprise at work today…

Pretty much the craziest birthday cake I’ve ever gotten… who knew that leopard print, hot pink and feathers could be so yummy?? It was a Fluffy Thoughts apple pecan spice cake with cream cheese and caramel filling. Check out some of the cakes on their site, they’re pretty amazing! My cake was definitely a hit -seasonally delicious and fashionable too?!? The best part is that (coincidentally) I was totally wearing shoes that matched the cake today! They looked similar to these:
Dolce & Gabbana Leopard Sole Patent Pump ($495)
I love that you get a peek of leopard print on the heel and sole of the shoe, but it’s not an all out heyyyy look at me!!I’m animal print!! Mine aren’t patent and they’re from a couple seasons ago, but they’re still fun! Anyway, Carnivelle festivities have officially begun so I’m getting ready for a busy couple of days (and getting sick too! ugh) so have a Wonderfelle weekend!

A moment for something non-shopping related: last week I had the pleasure of hearing the lovely C speak at a fundraiser about her efforts to eradicate malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh, India. Her work with the Real Medicine Foundation is really quite incredible and it would be great if my Wonderfelle readers took a moment to read more about the initiative or visit the Real Medicine Foundation blog. And since starving children need food and medical care more than you need new Jimmy Choos, consider donating that extra $5, $10, $1000 or whatever you might have to a worthy cause…
Speaking of India, apparently jewelry designer Amrita Singh fell into “accidental love” with jewelry making and now has a super successful business doing something she is passionate about. I wish I could say that was the story of my life…(hmmm, not so much.) but I can say that her jewelry is stunning…
Freida Earring, Bollywood Collection ($40)
Victorian Cuff ($150)
Cascading Pearl Necklace ($300)
(This necklace is really pretty, right? Well you should know that 1) the pearls aren’t real and 2) the Real Medicine Foundation could use the same $300 to save a VILLAGE by providing full malnutrition prevention and treatment services for a year… I’m just sayin’)

Have I mentioned how much I love Etsy? (Clearly the answer is yes, found here and here). I admit I’m by no means a vintage connoisseur, but inspired by some of my favorite bloggers, I was in the mood to peruse the vintage Etsy shops earlier. I came across the one-shouldered taffeta number above ($195) – how cool does she look?? I was immediately drawn to the cotton candy pouf detail and 80’s vibe… and then, it hit me – of course! I was drawn to this dress because it looks strikingly like the Thread Social number I posted about last week (and I wonder why it always seems like I have 10 of the same thing in my closet…). Anyway, I sorta fell in love with Girl On A Vine, the Etsy shop where I found it…
Vintage St. John dress ($270)
Someone please, PLEASE buy this so I can stop lusting over it. The chiffon ruffle sleeves are ridiculously great and its that stretchy knit material that St. John does so well. I’d need to cut almost a foot off the bottom… but it’s timeless and it looks a little big on the model which means it will probably fit me perfectly so why isn’t it MINE???
Red Silk with Jacquard Print ($65)
I think I was most drawn to the way this dress was styled, but then I read the description and discovered that the shoulder detailing is actually bows… and I was sold. The matching sash is adjustable and can be worn for an empire silhouette or dropped waist.
Vintage Pastel Pleated Dress ($125)
Who knew combining pleats, ruffles, ruching and a floral print could produce something so airy and chic? The adjustable wrap top and full skirt would be flattering on almost anyone, quite a lovely vintage find.
A few weeks ago I was intrigued by this Assad Mounser Long Moonage Daydream Collar ($295) and saved it for a potential post on the designer Amanda Assad Mounser … Of course now that I’m revisiting the necklace, it’s sold out on Kirna Zabete. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the bullet detailing at first, but quickly decided I’m lusting for it. It’s definitely edgy, but beautiful at the same time… and as you may have noticed, I’m all about layered chains right now. Assad Mounser’s pieces are not for the fashionably risk averse … but they are incredibly thoughtful mixtures of textures and materials. Anyway, while this one is sold out… these other necklaces aren’t!
Assad Mounser Moonage Daydream Collar ($395)
I actually prefer this silver and gold blend (more wearable!). The bullets are more integrated into the layered chains and therefore look less like fringe (eww, fringe). You’d think the box studding throughout (there I go with the studs again…) would make this necklace even more edgy, but instead it adds almost a contrasting elegant element to the design.
Assad Mounser Starman Necklace ($495)
It’s clear in many pieces that the designer has drawn inspiration from the patron saints of Catholicism and Madonna in “Like a Virgin.” I love the mixture of chain textures in this necklace and the blue cross overlay.
Assad Mounser Forget Me Not Collar ($339)
The crosses in this piece are more of a side dish and to a delightful entree of different colored chains and pearls. Not so much your grandmother’s pearls but definitely an interesting twist to the multi-layered look.
Assad Mounser Regal Necklace in Gunmetal ($339)
In reality, I’m most likely to choose to wear this last necklace. It’s a more subtle juxtaposition of textures and colors but still a statement piece.

I was a little grumpy earlier and thought I’d engage in some retail therapy… apparently therapy = bows because I might have gone a little overboard when I found a gold mine of them at Asos…
ASOS Big Bow Tee (£16.00)
Who doesn’t want to spice up a plain black tee with a big bow…
Faith Leather Bow Detail Flat Shoe (£24.00)
The scallop detailing makes me think mermaid > disney > happy.
Ted Baker Asymmetric Bow Front Fitted Dress (£38.00)
It’s no Versace, but it’s got a bow…
Ted Baker Bow Front Cashmere Blend Knit Top (£79.00)
(Part) cashmere and super cute too? I’m sold.
Vivienne Westwood For Melissa Bow Front Flat Shoe (£70.00)
Vivienne Westwood does jelly shoes for grownups…
ASOS Silk Bow Front Bandeau Dress (£22.00)
Nothing wrong with a purple party dress (with a bandeau bow, of course).
Corder Luxury Leather Bow Sparkle Gloves (£38.00)
Pink and sparkles add a feminine touch to black leather, don’t ya think?

My Fall/Winter uniform = dresses + tights. The weather needs to make up its mind though… just as I was getting used to wearing a coat, its warm again and for whatever reason I can’t get cool air to come out of the A/C in my apartment. Boo.
Elohim by Sabrina Goh Structure Low Back Cocoon Dress ($320)
So fierce. I’m a big fan of the architectural shape and interesting textures of this LBD paired with brilliant blue tights and and black oxfords.

snowflake Vestido Encaje ($209)
Feminine and airy. Somehow black tights make even a sheer, lacy white dress appropriate for fall. At least I think so…
Completely unrelated, I have no idea how my blog got on this list of 50 Excellent Blogs but thank you to whoever made that happen! To be on any top fashion blog list with The Cut and The Sartorialist is pretty crazy…

I got sidetracked by Zac and Vanessa in my last post, so back to what’s really important… my birthday, of course. What’s on my wish list of unnecessarily extravagant things I’d get for my birthday in a Wonderfelle fantasy world? Besides all the Chanel (yes, all of it), all the jewelry on Charm and Chain, and a whole separate closet full of Louboutins… and a tropical vacation… (and world peace)… How about a little shopping spree at Net-A-Porter with no truly practical investments allowed?
Roberto Cavalli Studded leather boots ($1,565)
I don’t know why I’m recently so drawn toward all things (tastefully) studded. Shoes, bags, jackets…. I can’t get enough for some reason.
Roksanda Ilincic Violette silk satin dress ($1,890)
I’ve also been on a bit of a purple kick and the color of this dress is crazy beautiful. Knowing me I’d probably wear it out and end up spilling red wine all over it… not the smartest investment, but it’s so pretttyyyy.
Rick Owens Blister leather biker jacket ($2,695)
I need a black leather jacket. I just do. I’m fully aware there are a ton more affordable options, but this is my fantasy shopping spree and this leather looks sooo soft.
Oscar de la Renta Glass pearl ribbon necklace ($1,150)
Drip me in jewels, please? This necklace kinda screams look at me I’m expensive…. and I’m ok with that.
The end of October marks the beginning of “holiday party” season for me and first up on the agenda is Carnivelle (otherwise known as the week long celebration surrounding Halloween and my birthday). Since my birthday’s the day after Halloween, it usually gets overshadowed by other festivities, but I’ve gotten used to it – and I’m kinda a low key bday girl anyway (don’t need a big party… just the presents!), and I love Halloween!
What are yall dressing up as? Z and I are channeling Zac Effron and Vansessa Hudgens via High School Musical… (you can go ahead and make fun of us now). I’d like to think I’m far too old to be a fan of the movie (err, all 3 of them), but it’s a not-so-secret guilty pleasure. What can I say, I kinda love musicals.

And if I were a teenage girl I’d totally have a crush on Zac Effron (who am I kidding, I know 40yr old mothers who have a crush on him…) so I’m pretty excited that my Z is channeling the look. And I happen to think Vanessa is pretty stunning herself (she’s half filipina!) and I love her style…
The boho chic look and messy, wavy hair always look perfectly effortless on her…
But she also pulls off hollywood glam – so stunning in Marchesa
Pairing a ruffled dress with leather jacket for an edgier look at the HSM3 UK premier
All done up in Ungaro for the InStyle Makeover fall 2009 issue
FYI you can get Vanessa’s look with a bronzed glow, glossy lips, dark nails, and controlled waves at Sephora now through November 2nd and use code FF2009 for 20% your order. Or check out their Tricks & Treats section for more Halloween inspiration.
It’s worth mentioning that Gemma Redux jewelry is on sale through Gilt Groupe (invitation here) now through 12pm EST on Monday – because this line from designer Rachel Dooley is seriously amaaazing. Being southern born and bred, I’m most likely to throw on a strand of pearls with my work attire, but after hours I like the idea of jewelry that’s a little less precious and a little more industrial.
I’m a big fan of Gemma Redux statement necklaces and the newest addition to the line, the Omne piece (as seen in InTouch) – a mixture of chains in a variety of metals held together with a “rare earth magnet” that can be worn in a whole ton of different ways (shown in more detail here):

As mentioned in the article, Jessica Alba and a number of other celebs, are also a fan of the line…
